KIDS OF MONTMARTRE

This house has nothing remarkable except for its frieze in mosaic.

It's situated in Montmartre, avenue Junot, a classy part of the 18th arrondissement.

It was the house of Francisque POULBOT who was a poster artist, quite famous for his caricatures of the kids of Paris, an illustrator. His drawing were published in magasines, postcards, and advertizing at the beginning from 1900 to the 30's.

Long after his death (1946), these children of Montmartre were named "Poulbots" like we used to say "Gavroche".

He was also a very generous person, he created with other artists a free health center juste after WWI, to help deprived families.

Hence the freize

Cette maison n'a rien de remarquable, excepté sa jolie frise qui court au dessous de son toit.

Elle est située avenue Junot, dans le quartier aujourd'hui trés prisé de Montmartre.

C'était la maison que Francisque POULBOT s'était fait construire.

D'où la frise représentant ces enfants de Montmartre.

Autrement que dans son art, il exprima sa générosité pour ces petits Poulbots, au lendemain de la première guerre mondiale, en créant avec d'autres artistes un dispensaire en faveur des familles démunies.

Un improbable moulin se dresse au sommet de la colline de Montmartre.

Il résiste aux épreuves du temps, pour témoigner de la gloire passée du quartier.

Les rires ne retentissent plus dans la salle de dance de la Guingette.

MONTMARTRE GRAPE HARVEST

Yesterday, it was the grape-harvest fete at Montmartre. An annual, very popular, fete, where many regions are always represented, even those non productors of wine.

This crowd stands in front of the arrondissement city hall.

Hier, c'était la fête des Vendanges à Montmartre. Une fête annuelle très populaire, où plusieurs régions sont représentées, même celles qui ne produisent pas de vin.

La foule se tient devant la mairie du quartier pour le départ.

They parade until they arrive at Montmartre, near the vineyards. Yes, for those who ask, Montmartre produces its own bottles of wines. So few, that they're considered as products for collection, and they're sold by auction.
