Here, a postal card dated from June 22nd 1903.
The view is from Montmartre, the Sacré Coeur is on the back of the photographer.
Underneath, the same view from the same place.
The buildings with Coupola roofs in the foreground have disappeared.
The church of Saint Vincent de Paul is the landmark.
I just commented to Awang that matching ols and new shots in B&W was a good idea for the theme. They are so interesting.
RépondreSupprimerYour link appears to be dead on Linky.
Nice to see the two times together.
RépondreSupprimerHave a nice week !
What a very clever idea for the prompt. The view from Montmartre has always been a favorite of mine. It's a shame about the cupola roofs though, they added a lot of character to the earlier scene.
RépondreSupprimerIt is an interesting idea to compare the here and now to the past and see wether progress has enhanced or destroyed a skyline.
Cool! I like old postcards! Wish I could see this place for myself.
RépondreSupprimerWhat a cool concept! And your photo matches the character of the postcard almost perfectly too.
RépondreSupprimerShame those cupolas are gone now. They make such an interesting figure in the skyline.
Awesome idea, and photo!
I like the comparison. Great idea.
RépondreSupprimerWhat a nice way of comparing the past and present! Very nice.
RépondreSupprimerInteresting comparison of shots! We wonder if time progression is really human progress! I wonder why the cupola roof lines were removed.
RépondreSupprimer(I found you via your comment on my blog! The link on Monochrome Monday doesn't seem to work!)
Bonjour Catherine,
I really like the way you showed the comparison between the postcard and the recent shot. Beautiful place.
RépondreSupprimerYou were right about mine in that the monchrome wasn't that far off from what it was in color.
I love Paris and Monmartre is one of the best spots to look out over the city ...
RépondreSupprimerI of course adore the vintage postcard! What a delightful theme for Monday!
RépondreSupprimerYou already made a good comparison in a previous post: it's nice to see how a place has changed in time.
RépondreSupprimerYou're right about the fountains: I'm surprised that here in Turin the fountains are working during the snowfalls!
RépondreSupprimerLike your old postcard! It a shame the buildings are missing! They added character to the area. Thanks for stopping by my place. Have a great day!!
Sherrie
Living close together - seems like those buildings leave little room for anything. Tks again for the Paris view...
RépondreSupprimerWow! More than a century old postcard! It's very interesting to see what a place looks like in the old days ... Do you have a photo of what the place looks like today, Catherine? It would be nice to compare and see how the place has changed in a century.
RépondreSupprimerthat sure is lovely!
RépondreSupprimerI regret the demise of the cupolas. That always seems to me a feature of the Parisian skyscape..good idea to post the then and now photos..
RépondreSupprimerNice; I love old postcards.
RépondreSupprimerAwesome post. Excellent photos and this old stamp is fantastic.
