ARMISTICE 90 YEARS AGO

Today is the Armistice Day. The End of WWI
During our holidays in Menton, we visited the cimetery.
We arrived to the 14 - 18 memorial .
All these names are Menton citizen-fellows who died during these 4 years.
They 've been sent at the front in the North.
See below, you get a memorial stone, it is written :

"Passer-by, Remove your hat
and pray
Don't forget that I have been what you are
And you will be what we are"

Entire families were killed.

.
We arrived to the Trabuquet, le carré de la Marne (square of the Marne) where have been buried Senegalese Tirailleurs who fought at our side during WWI. (Senegal made part of our Colonial 'empire' until 60's). After being injured at the front, they've been transfered in the South of France, in hotels converted in hospitals, to be treated if possible. Many (around 2000 men) died here far away from their country. (sources)

There were also Belgian soldiers

And Italian soldiers

SKY WATCH FRIDAY # 18

Posted by Picasa

I captured the sky last week, to bring you back from the South of France,
the last blue Sky of the season.
Young boys were playing a football/soccer match behind the wire netting.

Go and visit many others piece of sky at Sky Watch Friday
Even participate to this experience from all over the world.

ENCOUNTERED RANDOMLY 2

Once again, for cats lover and specially for my dear blogger friend Jacque who asked, I introduce you 4 new cats met randomly in the streets of Menton.
The black and white is a fighter, he had scars but wasn't intimidated by passer-by-paparazzi; since he approached when I spoke to him. (Yes, in a few years, I'll become the old lady, cats whisperer.)
They have a house and owners who allow them to live their cat life with all the dangers that it represents, but we're not in Paris were they couldn't survive. Here they live in a peaceful town.

BACK FROM SOUTH OF FRANCE

During our holidays for Halloween All Saints Days, we were in the South of France.
We go and visit a special city.
Recognize and visit with us.
First, you arrive with a special train painted with the colors of this city:

Red and White
Here, the station.

Yes, THESE specific colors.
What? Disneyland? Not at all! You're far, far from the truth. Or so close.
I repeat Red and White

Oui, des couleurs spécifiques.
Quoi? Disneyland? Pas du tout. Vous êtes loin, loin de la vérité. Ou si près.
J'insiste
Rouge et Blanc.

Red and White

Imagine a city 'sited' between past and modernity.

Very 'cluttered' architecture! far from the architecture of the houses in the South of France.

Yes, ........ an harbour. Well seen.

Even 2 harbours.

With big, big, and very expensive yachts.

Même 2 ports.

Avec de très , très luxueux yachts.

A little castle, with its Princely family. You've found! Not yet?

A clue ? For European football supporters : A great and famous football team. It's a given.(I'm not a football supporter, but my son is one. That's the reason why you get pictures.)

A stadium.

Un stade

A city where it is better not to be a pedestrian.

A city where you can cross Ferrari, Bentley or Rolls Royce cars! (Sorry, I'm not a cars 'worshipper'! I haven't taken pictures)

A city where many, many famous people get a "pied-à-terre", (as Ringo Starr, Sean Connery, Roger Moore - maybe you need to be called B-O-N-D, James Bond),

paradise for sportmen and women (Tennis players and Formula 1 drivers),

and many others who wants to find understanding bankers to administer their fortune (that's the reason why we took a return train ticket, we don't meet the requirement as far as celebrity and fortune to become resident. . . . . Not yet!).

. . . . . . . . . . . . Pas encore! : )
