RUBY TUESDAY # 16

The Salmon House at Chartres is a relic of the half-timbering house that remains on the place de la poissonnerie (fish-shop square) where were negociated fishes as soon as the Middle Age.

Here, you can watch a piece of the Cathedrale by reflection on its doors.

This to participate to Ruby Tuesday, to watch other participants,

visist Mary's blog Work of the Poet.

  1. I love the fish carved on the timber!
And the cathedral too, of course.
    Lovely!

  3. Impressive medieval building.
I thought only the old Norwegians were using timber back then.
Come to thing of it, the wood carvers were a guild of its own, with craftsmen traveling all over Europe.
Special to see it still incorporated in a city on not only as a part of a museum.
The cathedral of course is a reflected masterpiece.

  6. The red doors and windows are classic, and the way they sit upon the slate (?) foundation and steps is beautiful. The best and most complex picture is the cathedral reflection in the old glass. A stunning montage!

  16. I missed Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres while I was in France, but I've seen a lot of photos of this and wish I had made the trip here. The two different spires look so very interesting.

  22. Love the name (Salmon) and the red factor increases that but the reflection is just perfect oh and we can't sit directly on the grass too much in TX because there are many biting bugs: ants, chiggers, not fun at all!! I miss where I grew up in Ohio where we rolled in the grass safely as children.

  23. That's a house for me, it looks so nice but I am more interested in the salmon !
I don't know if it rains often in Maastricht, it was the first time I visited this lovely little town. But Holland and Belgium have usually the same weather so it rains often I can assure you ! But today and apparently the whole week the sun will shine ! Youpee !!

  30. What a wonderful carved fish, and that shot with the reflection is simply divine.

European cities have such a sense of place, of the (accessible) past. Here, there are antiquities far beyond the reach of memory of an earlier fishmonger, or more recent history, but little in the way of commercial history for the periods in between.
